Office or evening scent: how to choose a perfume for the occasion

Many people have one favourite perfume for every occasion. There is nothing wrong with that, but a scent that is perfect for an evening dinner can be too loud in the office, while a light daytime scent can disappear in the evening. If you want your perfume to always fit the moment, two are useful: one for the day and one for the evening.

For the office and daytime

At work a scent should only be noticeable up close – colleagues next to you can smell it, the room cannot.

  • Choose fresh, floral or light woody scents.
  • 1–2 sprays on the neck or wrists are enough.
  • Avoid very sweet and heavy scents in closed rooms.

For evenings and celebrations

In the evening a scent can be more noticeable and warmer.

  • Oriental scents with amber, vanilla or oud, as well as sweet scents.
  • Arabic perfumes shine here – they are rich and long-lasting.
  • 2–3 sprays; if the scent is very strong, one is enough.

How to make a scent last longer

  • Spray on moisturised skin – on dry skin perfume fades faster.
  • Pulse points: neck, behind the ears, wrists. Do not rub your wrists together – it “crushes” the top notes.
  • A scent lasts longer on clothes and hair, but check that it does not leave marks on light fabrics.

Try before you buy

If you cannot decide between two scents, take both as testers from Minis and testers. Within a few days it will be clear which is your daytime and which your evening scent.
